Our Jersey, Betty Davis

We have a Jersey cow on our property.  We have affectionately named her, Betty Davis. She is friendly, to me at least.  The veterinarians who enter her pen claim that she tries to heat butt them. She is curious.  She also enjoys a good scratch, under her chin, and behind her horns.

Welcome, Porterville High Vet Science Class!

Today, the VMTRC was privileged to welcome the Porterville High School Veterinary Science Class.  Michelle Evans brought a group of Juniors over. Dr. Lehenbauer introduced the VMTRC, Dr. Moeller narrated a necropsy video, Kathy Glenn showed how the Milk Quality Lab identifies organisms, and Jen Crook condensed a one year DNA course into 10 minutes!

I visited our calves today.  Both Harry and Hermione were quite curious.  Both have always run away from me.  Today, they both came and touched my hand!  I brought our calf cutouts of Harry and Hermione to visit their name sakes.

Yesterday, Wednesday, 22 January 2014, we let Harry in to the pen with Hermione.  They had met together often at the fence and we thought that they might like to play together.  They do seem to be enjoying their time together.  They even posed for the camera.
